PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The expansion offers all fans of Carcassonne new challenges: The Cathedral triples the value of a city, and the Inn doubles the value of a road but only when they are completed. Players may use the new large follower to double their chances of controlling a city, road, or field. Also included is all necessary material to allow a sixth player to join in the fun. Finally, there are six point tiles to make scoring easier when players score more than 50 points. You need to have the Carcassonne game in order to use this expansion.

What we know... but better Posted: 14 June 2010
This expansion for Carcassonne, the first of the 'big' or 'main' expansions, does very little that we have never seen before. The addition of a 6th player meeple set allows more fun all-round, nothing revolutionary, while the over-sized meeple (count as 2) for each player helps to keep control of key features.
That said, the expansion does help to redress the balance in the game by subtly increasing the power of cities and roads, helping to ensure that farmers =/= automatic win. That said, the increase in power leads to an increase in risk, with both inns and cathedrals giving NO points should you not finish a feature. Other new tiles help finish those awkward features, particularly cities.
All in all, a good expansion, and a recommendation for anyone who has carcassonne!
Keeps the enthusiasm going Posted: 07 April 2010
When eventually you tire of the original, this will get the fires of enthusiasm burning again.
These new tiles have pictures of little inns with ponds by roads on some of the tiles, and cathedrals that are city pieces with no walls on two others. There's also a few new variations of city and road tiles that address the need for certain tiles that didn't exist until now (like a road going into a diagonal city piece, for example).
The effect of this expansion kit is to make it more of a commitment to finish some of the roads and cities as the rewards for doing so are increased, but if they aren't completed you get nothing (if an inn is part of a completed road you get two points per square but none if it isn't finished, and a cathedral in a completed city makes it worth 3 points per square, but nothing if unfinished)
There's also another set of men in case there weren't enough for you in the original set, and each player now gets a slightly larger piece that counts as two men, which adds another nuance to the tactical play.
The first expansion I bought was Carcassonne: River 2 [Toy], which addressed the slight imbalance in favour of farms. This is a great way to increase the tactical play without changing the principles that make the game so compelling.
Really good.
Great game at a competitive price Posted: 15 March 2010
This is an amazing game and I can't wait to get all the expansion packs. It was delivered quickly in good condition. The price was quite competitive. Fully recommended!
Carcassonne Expansion 1; Inns & Cathedrals Posted: 13 February 2010
This expansion is certainly worth the money. It makes the game much more interesting. It keeps the brain cells ticking over by working out different strategies of placing the extra tiles.

The more expansions added the more comples the game becomes - makes you think more and is more fun. Each game also lasts longer.
