PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Butt-Ugly Martians Collector's Edition consists of a half-hour video, some play figures from the series and an ingenious CD-ROM trading card. The video opens with a scene-setting introduction to the three Martians sent to invade Earth, who end up liking the place so much they decide to stay and protect the planet (usually against their own superiors) instead. A sample episode follows, in which one of the BUMs' teenage friends is accidentally transported to the Martian command ship. There's also a pretty funny music video segment. On the down side, the computer animation used in the series clearly has a budget of zilch, while the story lines and characterisation make the Teletubbies seem positively Chekovian in their complexity. On the up side, the intended audience, three years old and upwards, really won't care and the toy figures included will make for some fun imaginative play, while adult fans of classic cop shows can look out for Robert The Untouchables Stack among the voice credits. Best of all though is the card-sized, rectangular CD-ROM, which not only works but manages to pack several games, video clips, Web links and dollops of background info into a clever little package.--Roger Thomas
